My gloves
It’s windy today. I keep warm and dry with three layers of gloves. Grabbing my items like a crab . It’s challenging to do all things without taking them off though. I would say that mittens are the best for warmth but if you take them of every other minute to be able to do things, it’s not really the right solution. As a layer two, I have a pair of home-made felted mittens (Thanks to @emelievw). My layer one is a thin five finger glove (assembly gloves or wool liner) that I use while taking photos or operating the stove. By wearing these gloves, I minimise naked skin against metal and other cold gear. If I get too warm I usually take of my second layer (home-made).
My outer layer is not taped even if the fabric itself is waterproof. I believe the moisture-wicking becomes a little better by doing this. If you get really damp from heavy physical activity, you’d better take off a layer but in general I believe this solution is better for me at least. If you dig in the snow making bivacks or igloos I prefer taped outer layers.
The setup can be good to have if you follow me to Sarek with PathfinderTravels or if you want to have a god setup while packing for your next endeavour and use my ski touring equipment list.
